After Netflix, Disney is now also taking action against account sharing. However, we at the competition will also be able to add an additional member to Disney Plus in the future. We’ll tell you how it works.
It has been known for some time that… Netflix now too Disney Plus wants to take action against so-called account sharing. Several households use a subscription to share the costs of streaming services.
But that will soon be over. Instead, the US group now also offers the option of adding an additional member to an existing subscription. Like the Walt Disney Company in a blog post writes, the new additional account is now available in Europe, among others.
However, it is still unclear when exactly Disney plans to take active action against account sharing. Most recently there was talk of September 2024, but there is no more precise information about this yet.
Add an additional member to Disney Plus – here’s how
The additional membership is intended for people who do not live in their own household but still want to be part of the existing subscription. This is usually cheaper than taking out your own subscription.
The additional account is available for all Disney Plus subscriptions. However, the prices differ.
For example, if an additional member is added to a standard subscription with advertising, this will cost five euros more per month. For the standard subscription without advertising and the premium subscription, however, it is six euros per month.
In contrast to Netflix, additional members of Disney Plus receive access to all films and series that are also available in the main subscription. However, only one additional member can be added per subscription.
Step by step to an additional account
You can already use the new function in Germany. To do this, you must have your “Disney Plus”profile“ and then the menu item “Account” choose.
Under “Your subscriptions and billing” you will find the “Invite additional member” option. It is also possible to add an existing profile to a subscription. This allows the history and settings of the profile to be retained. Excluded from this are main profiles as well as profiles of minors and profiles in junior mode.
But even though additional Disney Plus members have access to the entire catalog, there are still limitations. Because additional members can only open one account. Streaming is also only possible on one device at a time.
