This has a negative effect on battery performance. That’s why you should only use your iPhone in places with a strong signal. If you know you’ll be in an area with no reception for a while, it may be worth turning on airplane mode.
Basically, a WiFi connection uses less battery than mobile internet. When using apps with Internet access, you should activate Wi-Fi. Starting with the iPhone 12 and the third generation iPhone SE, 5G Auto is also available. With this function you can activate Smart Data mode.
If 5G speeds don’t result in noticeably better performance, iPhone will automatically switch to LTE, extending battery life.
The power saving mode can also help to extend the battery life. It reduces power consumption by limiting and disabling some features, such as checking email, “Hey Siri,” background app refresh, or some visual effects.
iPhone battery: Check battery status
Is your battery life short even though you’ve followed all the tips? Then it may be that your battery simply can’t handle it anymore. Like all rechargeable batteries, iPhone batteries have a limited lifespan and may need to be replaced at some point. To be sure, you can check the condition of the battery:

- iPhone 14 and older: Tap “Settings“, then click “battery“ and then click “Battery status & charging process“.
If you see the Service indicator, Apple recommends considering replacing the battery to restore full performance and capacity.
