- The Vision Pro helmet is a considerable success
- Video game developers and studios are won over
- The device could bring hundreds of billions of dollars to Apple
Susan Prescott and Steve Sinclairtwo Apple executives, just spoke with the magazine Digital Trends. We learn in particular that Cupertino aims to offer a very wide range of apps for its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. The device has two 4K screens and offers many features similar to macOS. Along with this, the two employees also brought up the case of in-house product development. And everything seems calculated, to the millimeter.
Sinclair explains in particular that the Worldwide Developer Conference, organized in June, was a prime opportunity for the first hands-on by third-party developers. They are the ones that feed the App Store, with in particular several video games expected at the launch of the Vision Pro. One thinks particularly, here, of the title NBA 2K23 Arcade Edition, accessible via Apple Arcade and allowing you to play basketball with a PlayStation controller.
A mapped out future
For Tommy Palm, CEO of the Resolution Games studio, the mixed reality segment that Apple has just attacked even promises to be “monumental“. The publisher sees this as a boon for the market, and thus seems to echo recent estimates by specialist analysts. These rely on up to five hundred billion dollars in turnover for the headed helmet, within a few years.
It must be said that the value proposition has something to please, in the long term. A future Apple mixed reality headset could thus prove to be much lighter. visionOS could even be available on a future pair of connected glasses. For comfort that is ultimately more practical than that of the smartphone, with apps simply superimposed on the user’s environment. No more risk of running into a pole with your eyes glued to your mobile.
Experience above all
Going further, Sinclair even goes so far as to say that those who have tested the Vision Pro are so impressed thatthey forget that the device is present on their face. It’s hard to imagine how this materializes in practice, but there is no doubt that comfort, again, is a key element of the user experience on which Apple is working.
Finally, let us mention again the case of Susan Prescott, who assures that the tests of the Vision Pro by the developers obtain a satisfaction rate “extremely” pupil. The vice president in charge of relations with this public has worked at Apple since leaving Adobe in 2003.
