No one will blame you for having forgotten the existence of the Vision Pro, Apple is not particularly pushing its mixed reality headset (it is also true that the period is the iPhone 16). But even with a certain discretion, the manufacturer is very far from having finished with “spatial computing”.
THE VisionProavailable in the United States since February, then in July in France, is very discreet. After the buzz of the launch, it is clear that the mixed reality headset has not shaken up the established order on the small market of VR/XR products where Meta reigns supreme. It must be said that the price is obviously a major obstacle (from €3,999) to the democratization of whatApple presented as “spatial computing”.
An M5 chip and Apple Intelligence in the engine
Never mind! The Apple firm clearly intends to launch volume production of the second generation of the Vision Pro from the second half of 2025, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. The TF International analyst, often well known in the company’s supply chain, specifies that if the helmet itself should hardly evolve in terms of design or even technical characteristics, the big change would be the addition of an M5 chip (the current model has an M2).
Obviously, the M5 chip does not exist, we are currently at the M4 on the iPad Pros, and we hope soon on new Macs. Perhaps this future Vision Pro will inaugurate the M5. According to Kuo, this new engine will allow the headset to take advantage of Apple Intelligence, which should help significantly improve the user experience, in conjunction with eye tracking and gesture controls.
The analyst believes that if the Vision Pro can integrate an AI model of video creation like Sora from OpenAIthis could “ raise » experience at one level « never seen », much higher than what is possible on current devices. That remains to be seen…
For the rest, this second generation could be sold at a price similar to the current model, in other words: very expensive, far too much for the general public. The problem with the Vision Pro isn’t so much the experience, even if the vast majority of developers aren’t interested in the product and Apple delivers immersive content sparsely. The major problem with the headset is obviously its price.
